Description
Alpha Adducin (ADD1) Antibody is a Rabbit Polyclonal against Alpha Adducin (ADD1). Adducins are a family of cytoskeletal proteins encoded by three genes (alpha, beta, and gamma). Adducin acts as a heterodimer of the related alpha, beta, or gamma subunits. The protein encoded by this gene represents the alpha subunit. Alpha- and beta-adducin include a protease-resistant N-terminal region and a protease-sensitive, hydrophilic C-terminal region. Adducin binds with high affinity to Ca(2+)/calmodulin and is a substrate for protein kinases A and C.

Descripción
ADD1 encodes alpha-adducin, a cytoskeletal protein that plays a key role in the assembly and maintenance of the actin-spectrin network, a critical component of the cell cortex. Alpha-adducin is primarily expressed in the brain and kidneys, where it contributes to cellular processes such as membrane stability, ion transport regulation, and cell signaling. It is particularly important in erythrocytes, where it stabilizes the spectrin-actin lattice to maintain red blood cell shape and flexibility. Genetic variations in ADD1 have been associated with hypertension and cardiovascular diseases due to its role in modulating sodium transport in renal epithelial cells. Additionally, alpha-adducin is involved in neuronal morphology and synaptic plasticity, highlighting its importance in neural development and function. Dysregulation or mutations can lead to cellular structural defects and associated diseases.
