ADGRE4P, also known as EMR4P (Epidermal Growth Factor-Like Module-Containing Mucin-Like Hormone Receptor-Like 4, Pseudogene), is a member of the adhesion G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family. Unlike functional adhesion GPCRs, ADGRE4P is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it likely lacks a functional protein product due to mutations or alterations during evolution. ADGRE4P is a homolog to the functional ADGRE4 receptor, which is expressed in immune cells and involved in regulating immune responses. However, in humans, ADGRE4P is not thought to encode an active receptor. Despite its pseudogene classification, emerging evidence suggests that pseudogenes like ADGRE4P might still play regulatory roles at the RNA level, potentially influencing the expression or function of related genes.
