Descripción
AHCYL2 is a homolog of AHCYL1 but with a less well-characterized role. It is structurally related to AHCY but, like AHCYL1, does not possess enzymatic activity. AHCYL2 is thought to function in regulatory pathways, potentially influencing calcium signaling, ion transport, and other processes through interactions with binding partners. It is expressed in multiple tissues, including the brain, heart, and kidneys, suggesting a role in physiological systems requiring fine-tuned calcium and signaling regulation. Dysregulation of AHCYL2 has been associated with electrolyte imbalance and cardiovascular diseases, though further studies are needed to elucidate its precise biological functions and contributions to human health and disease.
