Descripción
ACSBG2 is a long-chain fatty acid-CoA ligase highly expressed in testis and adrenal tissues, where it is involved in activating fatty acids for use in β-oxidation and complex lipid biosynthesis. This enzyme supports lipid storage and energy production by converting long-chain fatty acids into their acyl-CoA derivatives, which are essential intermediates in metabolic pathways. In the testis, ACSBG2 is particularly important for the synthesis of specialized lipids required for spermatogenesis and membrane composition. Its role in lipid activation also extends to maintaining steroidogenic processes in the adrenal glands. Dysregulation of ACSBG2 activity may contribute to reproductive issues or metabolic disorders, given its specific roles in energy metabolism and lipid functionality. Its tissue-specific expression emphasizes its contribution to specialized lipid metabolism critical for reproductive and endocrine functions.
