Descripción

ACAD11 is a mitochondrial enzyme that plays a critical role in the β-oxidation of long-chain fatty acids. It catalyzes the first step in the breakdown of these fatty acids, converting them into acyl-CoA intermediates that are further processed to generate energy. ACAD11 is expressed in metabolically active tissues such as the liver, heart, and skeletal muscle, which rely heavily on fatty acid oxidation for energy production. Beyond its role in energy metabolism, ACAD11 may also contribute to lipid signaling pathways, influencing cellular stress responses and metabolic adaptations. Dysregulation of ACAD11 has been associated with lipid accumulation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and metabolic disorders such as fatty liver disease. Its enzymatic specificity for long-chain substrates highlights its importance in maintaining lipid and energy homeostasis, making it a potential target for metabolic disease research.
