Descripción

HTR7 is a serotonin receptor belonging to the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family that activates adenylate cyclase upon binding to serotonin (5-HT), leading to increased cAMP production. It is widely expressed in the central nervous system, including the thalamus, hypothalamus, hippocampus, and the spinal cord, where it regulates critical functions such as mood, circadian rhythms, sleep, and thermoregulation. HTR7 is also expressed in peripheral tissues, including the gastrointestinal tract and vascular smooth muscles, where it modulates gut motility and vascular tone. Dysregulation of HTR7 signaling has been linked to mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder, as well as to sleep disturbances and migraine pathophysiology. Additionally, HTR7 has been implicated in inflammatory diseases and neurodevelopmental disorders due to its influence on neuronal connectivity and immune responses. Pharmacologically, selective HTR7 antagonists have demonstrated antidepressant and anxiolytic effects, making the receptor an attractive target for mood disorder therapies. Furthermore, HTR7 has potential roles in the management of pain and migraine, given its regulatory function in the pain processing pathways. Its broad physiological roles underscore its importance in maintaining neurological homeostasis and suggest therapeutic opportunities in both CNS disorders and systemic diseases.

5-Hydroxytryptamine Receptor 7 (HTR7) Antibody

The neurotransmitter, serotonin, is thought to play a role in various cognitive and behavioral functions. The serotonin receptor encoded by this gene belongs to the superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors and the gene is a candidate locus for involvement in autistic disorder and other neuropsychiatric disorders. Three splice variants have been identified which encode proteins that differ in the length of their carboxy terminal ends.
