Descripción
AGPAT5 catalyzes the conversion of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) to phosphatidic acid (PA), a precursor for the synthesis of glycerophospholipids and triglycerides. AGPAT5 is highly expressed in adipose tissue, liver, and muscle, playing a critical role in lipid storage, membrane formation, and cell signaling pathways. It is particularly important in regulating adipogenesis and energy homeostasis. Studies suggest that AGPAT5 may influence the composition of lipid droplets and contribute to metabolic flexibility. Dysregulation of AGPAT5 has been associated with insulin resistance, obesity, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), emphasizing its significance in lipid metabolism and metabolic health. Further investigations are needed to clarify its contributions to lipid-related disorders.
