Description

TRPC1 belongs to the transient receptor potential (TRP) superfamily of cation channels. TRP cation channels are involved in diverse physiologic processes, including receptor and store-operated Ca (2+) entry, mineral absorption, and cell death. They also function as sensors for pain, heat, cold, sound, stretch, and osmotic changes (Zhang et al., 2009 [PubMed 19193631]).

Thought to form a receptor-activated non-selective calcium permeant cation channel. Probably is operated by a phosphatidylinositol second messenger system activated by receptor tyrosine kinases or G-protein coupled receptors. Seems to be also activated by intracellular calcium store depletion.
