Descripción

TACR2, also known as NK2R, is another member of the tachykinin receptor family, activated by neurokinin B (NKB) and substance P. Like TACR1, TACR2 primarily couples to Gq proteins, which activate phospholipase C (PLC), generating inositol triphosphate (IP3) and increasing intracellular calcium levels. TACR2 is widely expressed in the smooth muscle, particularly in the respiratory and gastrointestinal systems, where it regulates smooth muscle contraction. In the CNS, TACR2 plays a key role in regulating neurogenic inflammation and modulating pain, as well as contributing to the regulation of reproductive function. Dysregulation of TACR2 signaling has been linked to conditions such as asthma, chronic pain syndromes, and reproductive disorders. Selective TACR2 antagonists are being developed to treat asthma, IBS, and other conditions where neurokinin B-mediated effects contribute to disease pathology.
