Descripción
SOCS7 is a member of the SOCS family that negatively regulates cytokine signaling pathways, particularly those involving the JAK/STAT pathway, by targeting receptor complexes and downstream components for proteasomal degradation via its SOCS box. Unlike other SOCS proteins, SOCS7 has additional roles in regulating insulin signaling, cellular localization of signaling proteins, and DNA damage responses. SOCS7 interacts with the nuclear adaptor protein NCK and modulates actin cytoskeletal dynamics, cell polarity, and nuclear signaling. It is highly expressed in tissues such as the brain, pancreas, and immune cells, where it participates in processes like insulin homeostasis, cell migration, and cytokine regulation. Dysregulation of SOCS7 is associated with metabolic disorders, insulin resistance, and immune dysfunction. Knockout studies reveal defects in glucose homeostasis, increased susceptibility to DNA damage, and disrupted immune responses, highlighting its multifunctional role in cytokine signaling, metabolism, and cell signaling regulation.
