Descripción

SOCS2 is a member of the SOCS family of negative regulators that controls cytokine signaling through the JAK/STAT pathway by binding to phosphorylated cytokine receptors and targeting them for proteasomal degradation. SOCS2 primarily regulates growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), and IL-6 signaling, modulating processes such as cell growth, differentiation, and metabolism. It is expressed in a variety of tissues, including the liver, skeletal muscle, and immune cells, where it balances cytokine-mediated cellular responses and prevents excessive signaling. SOCS2 plays a role in regulating growth and metabolism, as its deletion results in gigantism and increased sensitivity to growth hormone signaling. Dysregulation of SOCS2 has been linked to inflammatory diseases, insulin resistance, and cancer, where altered cytokine regulation promotes abnormal cell growth and survival. Knockout studies reveal excessive growth, immune cell hyperactivation, and increased susceptibility to inflammatory disorders, highlighting its role in maintaining cytokine signaling and growth homeostasis.
