Background
Inhibitory serpins have been shown to function in processes as diverse as DNA binding, chromatin condensation, immunoregulation ,apoptosis and haemostasis. Serpins are a broadly distributed protease inhibitors that use the conformational change as a mechanism of action. They are central in controlling many important proteolytic cascades. Phylogenetically Serpins superfamily organized in "Clades", named by letters. The following numbers shows the position in the glade. Serpin named as a SERPINXy, (where X is the clade and y is the number within that clade) many serpins also have alternative names from before this classification was proposed. Structuraly Serpinsare three β-sheets (A, B and C), 8-9 α-helices (termed hA-hI) and the reactive center known as reactive center loop (RCL). PAI-2 or Plasminogen activator inhibitor-2 (placental PAI, SerpinB2), is a serine protease inhibitor of the serpin superfamily. It is a coagulation factor that inactivates tissue plasminogen activator and urokinase. It is present in most cells, especially monocytes/macrophages

Se ha demostrado que las serpinas inhibidoras funcionan en procesos tan diversos como la unión al ADN, la condensación de cromatina, la inmunorregulación, la apoptosis y la hemostasia. Las serpinas son inhibidores de proteasas ampliamente distribuidos que utilizan el cambio conformacional como mecanismo de acción. Son fundamentales para controlar muchas cascadas proteolíticas importantes. Filogenéticamente superfamilia de Serpinas organizada en "Clados", nombradas por letras. Los siguientes números muestran la posición en el claro. Serpin nombrada como SERPINXy (donde X es el clado e y es el número dentro de ese clado). Muchas serpinas también tienen nombres alternativos antes de que se propusiera esta clasificación. Estructuralmente, las Serpins son tres láminas β (A, B y C), 8-9 hélices α (denominadas hA-hI) y el centro reactivo conocido como bucle del centro reactivo (RCL). PAI-2 o inhibidor del activador del plasminógeno-2 (PAI placentario, SerpinB2), es un inhibidor de la serina proteasa de la superfamilia de las serpinas. Es un factor de coagulación que inactiva el activador del plasminógeno tisular y la uroquinasa. Está presente en la mayoría de las células, especialmente monocitos/macrófagos.
