RAB2A, member RAS oncogene family (RAB2A) is a small GTPase that is part of the RAS superfamily of proteins, which regulate intracellular vesicular trafficking and membrane dynamics RAB2A specifically plays a critical role in the transport of vesicles between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the Golgi apparatus, an essential step in the secretory pathway that is crucial for protein sorting, glycosylation, and secretion Additionally, RAB2A is involved in regulating cell cycle progression, vesicular fusion, and cellular responses to stress Dysregulation of RAB2A can lead to various diseases, including cancer, where abnormal vesicular trafficking and cell proliferation are associated with tumor growth and metastasis Furthermore, alterations in RAB2A’s function are also implicated in neurodegenerative diseases, as defects in intracellular protein transport can disrupt cellular homeostasis and contribute to disease pathogenesis
