Background

MYBPC1 is a structural protein predominantly expressed in slow-twitch skeletal muscles, where it plays a critical role in maintaining the structural integrity of sarcomeres and regulating muscle contraction. By interacting with myosin and actin filaments, it modulates their binding interactions and stabilizes the thick filaments within the muscle fibers. This ensures the proper alignment and function of the contractile apparatus. Mutations in MYBPC1 have been associated with various myopathies, including those characterized by muscle weakness and reduced contractility, particularly in conditions affecting slow-twitch muscles.
