Background

ANGPTL4 is a secreted glycoprotein that plays key roles in lipid metabolism, angiogenesis, and inflammation. ANGPTL4 functions as an inhibitor of lipoprotein lipase (LPL), regulating triglyceride hydrolysis and fatty acid release, particularly during fasting and energy deprivation. It is expressed in adipose tissue, liver, and muscle, where it coordinates energy balance and lipid transport. ANGPTL4 also modulates angiogenesis by inhibiting endothelial cell proliferation and migration, making it a negative regulator of vascular growth.
