Background

SOCS2 is a member of the SOCS family of negative regulators that controls cytokine signaling through the JAK/STAT pathway by binding to phosphorylated cytokine receptors and targeting them for proteasomal degradation. SOCS2 primarily regulates growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), and IL-6 signaling, modulating processes such as cell growth, differentiation, and metabolism. It is expressed in a variety of tissues, including the liver, skeletal muscle, and immune cells, where it balances cytokine-mediated cellular responses and prevents excessive signaling. SOCS2 plays a role in regulating growth and metabolism, as its deletion results in gigantism and increased sensitivity to growth hormone signaling.
