Descripción
PHF7 is a histone-binding protein containing a PHD finger domain that recognizes methylated histones, particularly H3K4me3, to regulate transcriptional activation. PHF7 plays a role in spermatogenesis and male fertility by coordinating chromatin remodeling and gene expression during germ cell development. It interacts with transcriptional regulators and chromatin modifiers to activate genes essential for germ cell differentiation and meiosis. PHF7 is specifically expressed in testicular tissues, where it facilitates proper gene expression programs for spermatocyte maturation. Dysregulation or mutations in PHF7 are associated with male infertility due to disrupted spermatogenesis and impaired germ cell differentiation. Knockdown studies reveal defective chromatin remodeling, reduced germ cell proliferation, and meiotic arrest, emphasizing its role in transcriptional activation, germline development, and reproductive health.
