ADAM2, also known as ADAM metallopeptidase domain 2, belongs to the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase) family of proteins, which are involved in various biological processes such as cell adhesion, fusion, migration, and proteolysis. ADAM2 is specifically implicated in sperm-egg binding. Research on ADAM2 and related proteins has provided valuable insights into the intricate mechanisms governing fertilization.
