Descripción
SERPINB2, also known as plasminogen activator inhibitor type 2 (PAI-2), is a member of the serine protease inhibitor (SERPIN) superfamily. This family of proteins is crucial for regulating proteolytic processes in various biological systems. Unlike its close relative PAI-1, which is primarily secreted into the extracellular space, SERPINB2 is predominantly found within the cytoplasm of cells, although it can also be secreted under certain conditions. SERPINB2 is encoded by the SERPINB2 gene located on chromosome 18q21.3 in humans. It is an acute-phase protein, meaning its expression is rapidly upregulated in response to inflammatory stimuli. SERPINB2 has been extensively studied due to its role in regulating fibrinolysis, the process by which blood clots are broken down. However, recent research has uncovered a broader range of functions for SERPINB2, including roles in immune regulation, apoptosis, and cellular differentiation
