Neurobeachin like 2 (NBEAL2), another member of the neurobeachin family, shares many functional similarities with NBEAL1 and is involved in regulating the actin cytoskeleton and intracellular signaling NBEAL2 plays an important role in the development and function of neurons and has been shown to contribute to synaptic function, cellular signaling, and vesicular trafficking within the nervous system Its activity is important for maintaining proper neuronal communication and supporting processes such as synaptic plasticity, which is essential for learning and memory Additionally, NBEAL2 has been implicated in the formation and maintenance of specialized cellular structures like dendritic spines, which are involved in synaptic signaling Dysregulation of NBEAL2 has been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders, where impaired function leads to cognitive deficits and abnormal neuronal connectivity Understanding NBEAL2’s precise mechanisms in neurodevelopment and signaling may provide insights into new therapeutic approaches for neurodevelopmental diseases and synaptic disorders
