Background

Dmx like 2 (DMXL2), also known as rabconnectin-3α, is a WD40-repeat protein involved in vesicle trafficking and signaling, with critical roles in neurotransmitter release, autophagy, and lysosomal function. DMXL2 functions as a scaffold protein, mediating interactions between Rab GTPases and their effectors, particularly in vesicle docking and fusion. It is heavily involved in the regulation of vesicular trafficking pathways in neurons and endocrine cells, where it modulates the release of neurotransmitters and hormones. DMXL2 is also linked to the regulation of the vacuolar-type H+-ATPase (v-ATPase), which is essential for lysosomal acidification and autophagic degradation processes.
