ANXA1 is a calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding protein that plays a critical role in anti-inflammatory responses and cell signaling. It regulates the resolution of inflammation by inhibiting the release of pro-inflammatory mediators and modulating the activity of phospholipase A2 (PLA2). ANXA1 also influences cellular processes such as apoptosis, phagocytosis, and membrane repair. It is expressed in various tissues, including immune cells like neutrophils and macrophages, where it supports immune suppression and tissue repair. Dysregulation of ANXA1 has been implicated in cancer progression, where it can act as either a tumor suppressor or promoter depending on the context. Its anti-inflammatory and apoptotic regulatory properties highlight its therapeutic potential in inflammatory diseases, autoimmune disorders, and cancer.

This gene encodes a membrane-localized protein that binds phospholipids. This protein inhibits phospholipase A2 and has anti- inflammatory activity. Loss of function or expression of this gene has been detected in multiple tumors.
