Descripción
ANGPTL4 is a secreted glycoprotein that plays key roles in lipid metabolism, angiogenesis, and inflammation. ANGPTL4 functions as an inhibitor of lipoprotein lipase (LPL), regulating triglyceride hydrolysis and fatty acid release, particularly during fasting and energy deprivation. It is expressed in adipose tissue, liver, and muscle, where it coordinates energy balance and lipid transport. ANGPTL4 also modulates angiogenesis by inhibiting endothelial cell proliferation and migration, making it a negative regulator of vascular growth. In cancer, ANGPTL4 has context-dependent roles, promoting metastasis by enhancing tumor cell migration and vascular permeability while inhibiting angiogenesis in certain conditions. Elevated ANGPTL4 levels are associated with obesity, diabetes, and atherosclerosis, where it contributes to dyslipidemia and chronic inflammation. Its ability to regulate lipid metabolism, angiogenesis, and inflammation makes ANGPTL4 a potential target for treating metabolic disorders, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.
