Descripción

LIMS2, also known as PINCH2, is a LIM domain-containing protein closely related to LIMS1. It functions as a key regulator of integrin-mediated signaling, focal adhesion formation, and cytoskeletal organization by interacting with ILK and other focal adhesion proteins. LIMS2 is expressed in a variety of tissues, including muscle and connective tissues, where it supports processes like cell adhesion, migration, and mechanotransduction. It is critical for proper tissue development and maintenance, particularly in skeletal muscle and cardiovascular tissues. LIMS2 is functionally redundant with LIMS1 but has unique roles in fine-tuning integrin signaling. Dysregulation of LIMS2 has been linked to muscular dystrophies, fibrosis, and cancer progression due to defects in cellular adhesion and mechanical force transduction. Knockdown studies reveal defects in cell spreading, migration, and integrin stability, underscoring its role in maintaining structural and mechanical integrity.
