Descripción
LRIG2 is a close homolog of LRIG1, sharing structural features such as LRR domains and Ig-like domains that facilitate extracellular protein interactions. LRIG2 is primarily expressed in neural tissues and the urogenital tract, suggesting roles in neural development, tissue repair, and cell signaling. Unlike LRIG1, LRIG2 has been identified as a positive regulator of receptor tyrosine kinases, enhancing growth factor signaling. LRIG2 is implicated in glioblastomas and other aggressive cancers, where it promotes cell proliferation, migration, and survival. In non-cancer contexts, LRIG2 contributes to maintaining tissue integrity and regulating neural processes. Mutations in LRIG2 are associated with developmental disorders, including urofacial syndrome, which affects facial and urinary function. Its opposing regulatory roles compared to LRIG1 underline the diverse functionality of the LRIG family.
