SERPINA2 is a member of the SERPIN (serine protease inhibitor) superfamily, which is involved in a variety of physiological processes such as inflammation, coagulation, and tissue remodeling. This particular gene, however, is classified as a pseudogene in humans, meaning it is a non-functional remnant of a gene that was likely active in ancestral species. Pseudogenes like SERPINA2 arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition events, followed by mutations that render them non-functional. Despite its classification as a pseudogene, SERPINA2 is of considerable interest due to its evolutionary significance and its potential roles in gene regulation
