This product is for research use only. The range and sensitivity is subject to change. Please contact us for the latest product information. For accurate results, sample concentrations must be diluted to mid-range of the kit. If you require a specific range, please contact us in advance or write your request in your order comments. Please note that our ELISA and CLIA kits are optimised for detection of native samples, rather than recombinant proteins. We are unable to guarantee detection of recombinant proteins, as they may have different sequences or tertiary structures to the native protein.

Descripción

Procollagen Type I C-Terminal Propeptide (PICP) is a cleavage product of type I procollagen, the precursor of type I collagen, which is the most abundant structural protein in the extracellular matrix of connective tissues. PICP is released into the bloodstream during the synthesis of type I collagen, making it a reliable biomarker for collagen synthesis and turnover. It is widely used in clinical and research settings to assess bone formation, as increased levels of PICP correlate with osteoblast activity and are indicative of bone remodeling or conditions such as osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases. Elevated PICP levels can also occur in fibrotic conditions, including liver fibrosis, cardiac fibrosis, and certain cancers, reflecting excessive collagen deposition in affected tissues. Measurement of PICP is typically performed using immunoassays, and its levels can provide insight into the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions aimed at modulating collagen synthesis or tissue remodeling. Additionally, PICP is a key player in the assembly and stabilization of collagen fibrils, facilitating proper extracellular matrix organization. Dysregulation of PICP processing or collagen deposition can lead to pathological states, highlighting its importance in connective tissue health and disease.
