Descripción
ITLN1 is a secreted glycoprotein mainly expressed in adipose tissue, the small intestine, and the mesothelial cells It is known for its role in immune defense by binding to pathogen-associated carbohydrate structures, such as galactofuranose residues on microbial surfaces ITLN1 also acts as an adipokine, influencing insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism through its association with obesity and metabolic diseases Decreased ITLN1 levels are linked to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and obesity, while elevated levels are observed under conditions like calorie restriction or weight loss ITLN1 exerts anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects, improving metabolic function by reducing inflammatory cytokine production and enhancing insulin signaling in skeletal muscle It is also involved in tissue repair and epithelial protection through its interaction with epithelial cell surfaces Dysregulation of ITLN1 expression is associated with cardiovascular diseases and inflammatory disorders, making it a potential therapeutic target for obesity-related metabolic dysfunction
