Descripción
IGSF21 is a transmembrane protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily, primarily expressed in the central nervous system (CNS). It contains Ig-like domains that mediate protein-protein interactions and is involved in regulating synaptic development and stabilization. IGSF21 interacts with synaptic adhesion molecules, facilitating the formation of functional synaptic connections. It is essential for proper neuronal communication and synaptic plasticity, influencing processes like learning and memory. Dysregulation of IGSF21 is associated with neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and intellectual disability.
