Interferon Alpha 10 (IFNA10) is another type I interferon with significant antiviral and immune-regulatory properties. Like other interferons, IFNA10 is rapidly induced upon viral infection or immune activation and signals through IFNAR to trigger the expression of antiviral and immunomodulatory genes. IFNA10's functions include blocking viral replication, promoting the apoptosis of infected cells, and enhancing the cytotoxic activity of immune cells. It also plays a role in modulating the inflammatory response, maintaining a balance to prevent tissue damage. Although its clinical applications are less well-defined compared to IFNA2, studies have suggested potential roles in controlling infections, immune surveillance, and autoimmune disorders.
