ABHD18 is a member of the alpha/beta hydrolase superfamily, functioning as a serine hydrolase with roles in lipid metabolism and cellular signaling. It is thought to contribute to maintaining lipid homeostasis by acting on specific lipid substrates, although its precise enzymatic targets remain under investigation. ABHD18 is expressed in various tissues, including the brain and liver, suggesting a role in both central nervous system function and systemic metabolic processes. Emerging evidence points to its potential involvement in oxidative stress responses and neuroprotection. Dysregulation of ABHD18 activity may be associated with neurodegenerative diseases and metabolic disorders.
