Background

Arachidonic acid (AA) is a polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid that plays a central role in inflammation and cellular signaling. It is a key component of phospholipids in cell membranes and is released by phospholipase A2 upon stimulation by various signals. Once released, AA serves as a precursor for the biosynthesis of eicosanoids, including prostaglandins, thromboxanes, and leukotrienes, through enzymatic pathways involving cyclooxygenases (COX), lipoxygenases (LOX), and cytochrome P450 enzymes.
