Background

DENN domain containing 11 (DENND11) is another member of the DENN family, functioning as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) for Rab GTPases, with roles in vesicular trafficking and cellular organization. DENND11 is involved in regulating autophagy and endocytosis, contributing to the formation and maturation of autophagosomes and the recycling of endocytic vesicles. The DENN domain facilitates the activation of Rab GTPases by promoting GDP-GTP exchange, thereby modulating vesicular transport and membrane fusion events. DENND11 is highly expressed in certain tissues, particularly those with high vesicle trafficking demands, such as neuronal and epithelial cells.
