Calcitonin Antibody is a Rabbit Polyclonal antibody against Calcitonin. This gene encodes the peptide hormones calcitonin, calcitonin gene-related peptide and katacalcin by tissue-specific alternative RNA splicing of the gene transcripts and cleavage of inactive precursor proteins. Calcitonin is involved in calcium regulation and acts to regulate phosphorus metabolism. Calcitonin gene-related peptide functions as a vasodilator while katacalcin is a calcium-lowering peptide. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
Background
Calcitonin gene-related peptide, (CGRP) is a neuropeptide secreted and stored in the nervous system. In humans, CGRP exists in two forms: CGRP alpha (α-CGRP or CGRP I), a 37-amino acid neuropeptide produced through alternative splicing of the CALCA gene (CALC1) and CGRP beta (β-CGRP or CGRP II), which is encoded by a separate, nearby gene known as CALCB (CALC2). These two forms differ only by three amino acids.N-terminal disulfide bond and an amidated C-terminus and allows CGRP to bind to its receptorCGRP has a protective role in various cardiovascular diseases and its involvement in migraines has also been proven. Additionally, it has been discovered that CGRP serves as a crucial link between the nervous system and the skeletal muscle system. CGRP plays a multifaceted role by promoting osteogenesis, inhibiting bone resorption, facilitating vascular growth, and regulating the immune microenvironment.

El péptido relacionado con el gen de la calcitonina (CGRP) es un neuropéptido secretado y almacenado en el sistema nervioso. En humanos, el CGRP existe en dos formas: CGRP alfa (α-CGRP o CGRP I), un neuropéptido de 37 aminoácidos producido mediante corte y empalme alternativo del gen CALCA (CALC1) y CGRP beta (β-CGRP o CGRP II), que está codificado por un gen cercano e independiente conocido como CALCB (CALC2). Estas dos formas se diferencian sólo por tres aminoácidos. Enlace disulfuro N-terminal y un extremo C amidado que permite que el CGRP se una a su receptor. El CGRP tiene un papel protector en diversas enfermedades cardiovasculares y también se ha demostrado su implicación en las migrañas. Además, se ha descubierto que el CGRP sirve como vínculo crucial entre el sistema nervioso y el sistema del músculo esquelético.
