Background

Pregnancy Associated Glycoprotein 2 (PAG2) is another member of the PAG family with similar expression patterns and functions to PAG1. It is produced by binucleate trophoblast cells and released into the maternal bloodstream. PAG2 may contribute to maternal-fetal immune regulation and trophoblast invasion during early gestation. Like PAG1, it serves as a biomarker for pregnancy detection and monitoring in ruminant livestock. Differences in PAG isoforms, including PAG2, are of interest for understanding species-specific reproductive adaptations and improving pregnancy diagnostics.
