Background

ACTB, also known as beta-actin, is a highly conserved protein that serves as a fundamental component of the cytoskeleton in eukaryotic cells. Beta-actin is involved in various cellular processes, including cell structure, motility, and intracellular transport. Beta-actin forms filamentous structures, along with other actin isoforms, which constitute the cytoskeleton. This dynamic network of filaments provides structural support to the cell and is involved in cell shape determination and mechanical stability, motility and migration. It participates in the formation of cell protrusions such as lamellipodia and filopodia, which are essential for cell movement.
