Description
Receptor for the lysosphingolipid sphingosine 1-phosphate(S1P). S1P is a bioactive lysophospholipid that elicits diverse physiological effect on most types of cells and tissues. When expressed in rat HTC4 hepatoma cells, is capable of mediating S1P-induced cell proliferation and suppression of apoptosis.

Descripción
S1PR2 is a G protein-coupled receptor for sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), a bioactive lipid that regulates cell migration, proliferation, and vascular integrity. S1PR2 is expressed in endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, and immune cells, where it couples primarily to G12/13 and Gq proteins. Its activation triggers downstream pathways, including Rho/ROCK and phospholipase C (PLC), leading to actin cytoskeletal reorganization and calcium signaling. S1PR2 plays critical roles in maintaining vascular tone, regulating endothelial barrier integrity, and inhibiting cell migration. It also contributes to immune cell retention in tissues, modulating inflammation and immune responses. Dysregulation of S1PR2 has been linked to inflammatory diseases, cardiovascular dysfunction, and neurodegeneration. In cancer, S1PR2 can act as a tumor suppressor by inhibiting migration and metastasis; however, in some contexts, it promotes inflammation and tumor progression. Targeting S1PR2 is under investigation for therapeutic applications in inflammation, vascular diseases, and cancer.
