Description
ACTA2(also known as α-smooth muscle actin or α-SMA) belongs to the actin family. Actins are highly conserved proteins that are involved in various types of cell motility and are ubiquitously expressed in all eukaryotic cells. ACTA2 is primarily expressed in vascular smooth muscle and anti-ACTA2 is commonly used to marker smooth muscle cells. This antibody may cross-react with other isoforms of actins.

Descripción
ACTA2 encodes actin alpha 2, a protein that is a key component of the contractile apparatus in smooth muscle cells. Smooth muscle alpha actin is a major component of the contractile apparatus in smooth muscle cells, contributing to the contractility and mechanical properties of various organs and tissues, including blood vessels, airways, and the gastrointestinal tract. ACTA2 (as with all the actins) is extremely highly conserved and found in nearly all mammals Is essential for physiological processes such as blood pressure regulation, airway tone, and peristalsis in the digestive system. It forms filamentous structures that interact with other proteins to generate force and facilitate muscle contraction. Various signaling pathways and transcription factors control the expression of ACTA2, ensuring its proper expression in smooth muscle cells. Mutations or dysregulation of ACTA2 expression have been associated with several smooth muscle-related disorders, including vascular diseases such as thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections (TAAD), familial thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections (FTAAD), and other vascular malformations.

anti- ACTA2/smooth muscle actin antibody
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the actin family of proteins, which are highly conserved proteins that play a role in cell motility, structure and integrity. Alpha, beta and gamma actin isoforms have been identified, with alpha actins being a major constituent of the contractile apparatus, while beta and gamma actins are involved in the regulation of cell motility. This actin is an alpha actin that is found in skeletal muscle. Defects in this gene cause aortic aneurysm familial thoracic type 6. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been identified.
