Descripción

ANGPT4 is a member of the angiopoietin family of secreted glycoproteins that regulate angiogenesis and vascular remodeling through interactions with the Tie2 receptor on endothelial cells. ANGPT4 shares structural and functional similarities with ANGPT1 but has distinct tissue-specific expression patterns. It promotes endothelial cell survival and vascular stabilization in certain contexts, although its precise role can vary depending on the tissue and physiological conditions. ANGPT4 is expressed in the lung and other vascularized tissues, where it contributes to blood vessel formation and repair during development and tissue regeneration. Unlike ANGPT2, which promotes vascular destabilization, ANGPT4 generally supports vascular integrity, but its role as an agonist or antagonist of Tie2 signaling can depend on the cellular microenvironment. Dysregulation of ANGPT4 has been implicated in tumor angiogenesis and vascular diseases, where it may enhance abnormal vessel growth and contribute to cancer progression. Its role in vascular biology highlights ANGPT4 as a potential therapeutic target for modulating angiogenesis in disease contexts.
