Description

ANG Antibody is a Rabbit Polyclonal antibody against ANG. The protein encoded by this gene is an exceedingly potent mediator of new blood vessel formation. It hydrolyzes cellular tRNAs resulting in decreased protein synthesis and is similar to pancreatic ribonuclease. In addition, the mature peptide has antimicrobial activity against some bacteria and fungi, including S. pneumoniae and C. albicans. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same protein. This gene and the gene that encodes ribonuclease, RNase A family, 4 share promoters and 5' exons. Each gene splices to a unique downstream exon that contains its complete coding region.

Descripción

Angiogenin (ANG) is a protein that plays a significant role in angiogenesis. It is a member of the ribonuclease superfamily, but unlike other members that primarily function in RNA degradation, angiogenin has distinct functions related to blood vessel formation and tissue repair. The primary role of angiogenin is to promote the growth of new blood vessels from existing ones. This is crucial in processes like wound healing, embryonic development, and tissue regeneration. Angiogenin has ribonuclease activity, meaning it can cleave RNA molecules. However, its angiogenic activity is independent of this enzymatic function. Angiogenin acts on endothelial cells, which line the inside of blood vessels. It stimulates these cells to proliferate, migrate, and form new blood vessels. It also promotes cell survival and protects cells from apoptosis (programmed cell death), which is important for the stability of newly formed blood vessels.
