Background

The adrenergic receptor beta-2 (ADRB2) is another G-protein-coupled receptor widely distributed in smooth muscle tissues, including the lungs, blood vessels, and uterus. ADRB2 activation by catecholamines induces smooth muscle relaxation through cAMP-mediated pathways, leading to bronchodilation, vasodilation, and uterine relaxation. In the respiratory system, ADRB2 is critical for airway relaxation, making it a primary target for bronchodilators used in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) management. Additionally, ADRB2 plays a role in glycogenolysis in the liver and skeletal muscles, promoting energy mobilization during stress or exercise.
