Descripción

AMIGO2, like AMIGO1, is a cell adhesion molecule that regulates cell migration, adhesion, and survival. It is expressed in various tissues, including the brain, heart, and vascular system, where it participates in developmental processes and cellular signaling. AMIGO2 plays a role in the maintenance of endothelial cell integrity and vascular remodeling, making it essential for blood vessel formation and repair. In the context of cancer, AMIGO2 is implicated in tumor angiogenesis and metastasis by promoting cell survival and migration through interactions with signaling pathways such as PI3K/AKT. Overexpression of AMIGO2 has been observed in cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma and gastric cancer, where it contributes to tumor progression and resistance to apoptosis. AMIGO2 also supports neuronal survival under stress conditions, linking it to neuroprotection and repair mechanisms in the nervous system. Its role in both vascular biology and tumorigenesis makes AMIGO2 a potential therapeutic target.

Required for depolarization-dependent survival of cultured cerebellar granule neurons. May mediate homophilic as well as heterophilic cell-cell interaction with AMIGO1 or AMIGO3. May contribute to signal transduction through its intracellular domain. May be required for tumorigenesis of a subset of gastric adenocarcinomas.
