Background
Activator of 90 kDa Heat Shock Protein ATPase Homolog 1 (AHSA1) is a co-chaperone protein that enhances the ATPase activity of Hsp90, a molecular chaperone essential for the proper folding, stability, and function of numerous client proteins, including kinases, receptors, and transcription factors. AHSA1 facilitates the Hsp90 chaperone cycle, ensuring efficient protein maturation and stress response. Overexpression of AHSA1 has been linked to cancer, as it enhances the stability of oncogenic client proteins required for tumor progression and survival. AHSA1 is a promising target for cancer therapies aimed at disrupting Hsp90 function. Beyond cancer, AHSA1 also plays a role in protein quality control and cellular stress responses, contributing to proteostasis under normal and pathological conditions.
