Thyroxine Binding Globulin (TBG, gene name SERPINA7) is the carrier protein for the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) in the blood. Each TBG protein can carry only one thyroid hormone molecule, however the protein is typically in excess of the hormone. The protein is found on the X-chromosome, and can sometimes be completely deficient in males, however this does not typically result in any symptoms or other detrimental effects. Altered expression levels of TBG can be caused by non-genetic factors and can be indicative of an underlying condition. Target
