note
This product is for research use only. The range and sensitivity is subject to change. Please contact us for the latest product information. For accurate results, sample concentrations must be diluted to mid-range of the kit. If you require a specific range, please contact us in advance or write your request in your order comments. Please note that our ELISA and CLIA kits are optimised for detection of native samples, rather than recombinant proteins. We are unable to guarantee detection of recombinant proteins, as they may have different sequences or tertiary structures to the native protein.
background
Factor IX (F9, also known as Christmas factor) is a blood protein that forms an integral part of the coagulation cascade. It is cleaved into active factor IX (F9a) by factors XIa and VIIa, after which it can use factor VIIIa as a cofactor to activate factor X. Low levels of factor IX occur in the X-linked genetic disorder Haemophilia B, also known as “the royal disease” due to its high rate of occurrence in Queen Victoria’s descendants, or Christmas disease as it was first described in a child named Stephen Christmas. This disorder causes a reduction in clotting capability, increasing the risks from and frequency of bleeds.
